Os números e estatísticas apresentados impressionam!

Por exemplo, enquanto a Indústria Petrolífera americana consome 378 bilhões de litros de água por ano, a Pecuária, só nos EUA, consome 130 trilhões de litros. Isso significa que, para se produzir um simples hambúrguer são necessários 2500 litros de água!

Outro dado é que mais de 50% dos grãos produzidos no mundo vão direto para alimentar o gado. Isso seria mais do que suficiente para alimentar de 12 a 15 bilhões de pessoas, enquanto a população mundial é de 7 bilhões de pessoas.

A criação de gado para abate e produção de leite e seus derivados também é responsável por 51% da emissão de gases causadores do efeito estufa contra apenas 18% de todos os meios de transporte combinados.

Além disso é responsável por 91% da destruição da Amazônia, poluição passiva dos oceanos, dentre muitas outras consequências avassaladoras.

Com esses números fica claro que a solução para a economia de água,fome no mundo e mudanças climáticas não é fechar a torneira enquanto se escova os dentes, dar uma moeda para o mendigo ou ir de bicicleta para o trabalho!

Chegamos a um ponto onde não comer carne, leite e derivados não é mais uma simples questão de paladar ou vida saudável. Fica claro que é uma necessidade urgente para a sustentabilidade da vida no planeta.

A pergunta é: Iremos vencer nosso apetite por amor a nossos filhos e netos, deixando um “amanhã” a eles? Ou iremos continuar a nos fartar de nossos desejos, sem pensar nas consequências, não só pra nós hoje, mas para nossa própria descendência?
